The
Ezhednevnik (www.ej.by) (with 
additions). The controversial website, kompromatby.com,
actively engaged in
posting revelatory articles relating to Belarus, has
become a mirror of the
official website of the President. Today
since the morning
visitors of kompromatby.com
have
been greeted with an attentive gaze of Alexander Lukashenko. The website
developed by a former
Belarusian journalist in order to post damaging evidence
about Belorussian
officials is now absolutely identical to the official web-site of the President
of
Belarus. In fact, kompromatby.com has become a mirror website of the
President`s homepage.

“The Administration of the
President does not have any information
with regard to the event”, said Pavel Legkiy, head of
the Presidential press office, to The Ezhednevnik.
“I believe that it is a provocation against the
President of
Belarus”,
he said.

In order to clear up the issue,
«Ezhednevnik» asked the owner of the website,
Mikhail Podolyak,
to comment:

- Michael, are you aware what
happened to your website?

- Yes, I have already received a
call. I was told that the website of the Belarusian President
had been uploaded to my website.

- Could you please explain what
happened?

- For the last half of the year numerous
attacks were launched on the website, and today they
have finally seized control of the website. Still, we can
bring the situation back to normal. I think that today
everything will resume its normal course.

Frankly speaking, I am quite surprised at these
actions.   In fact, kompromatby.com was not a
dynamic website. It is not
a news website. Still, they used to spend enormous
resources on the actions against us. Today they
have simply put the website of the President there. It
is cool.  I like
it. It is unusual.

- But why did they decide to
upload the President`s homepage in particular?

- As a matter of fact, today we
were planning to post a new article about
Lukashenko. Frankly speaking, I am at a complete
loss.  All other websites function today
as usual.

- May it be that a new method used
to block independent websites was
tested on you?

- If they have tried this method,
it doesn`t mean they will be able to use it on
December 19.  Quite the contrary, they
have accidentally given the method away. 
They would have better
change all websites in the eve of the elections.  Because now it is clear what method they will
use
, and if such a thing happens during the elections,
everybody will be ready for it. They
have revealed the method for no apparent reason.

For the last 24 hours events
regarding the website resemble a traditional detective
story.  I have almost no time to describe
them all
immediately. 
Forfeiture, seizure, negotiations in which several special envoys
participate,
tough haggling. 
Events continue to happen. 
Haggling is going on in particular. 
Honestly speaking,
 it is not quite
clear what happens next.  I do not think
that we are talking here about the deadline
set for the night of December 20.   Removal of the 'Last night of Lukashenko'
article is one
of the items being haggled (plus the full return of
the control over the website). I would only tell you that the opposite party
spent extraordinary resources on that 24-hour blitz.
The intensity of the negotiations gives us almost no
spare time...
